The crowned pigeon is a very spectacular ground-dwelling pigeon with a bluish colour. It has a large erectile crest. It is the largest pigeon in the world.

Threats and conservation

The crowned pigeon is threatened by hunting for its meat and its prized feathers. Its natural habitat has considerably shrunk and it now survives only in remote regions of isolated forests. The Victoria crowned pigeon benefits from official protection in Papua New Guinea and Indonesia.
