Our commitment to biodiversity

European breeding programmes

At ZooParc de Trégomeur, every visit contributes to the protection of biodiversity. Our mission is not limited to presenting animals to the public. Every day, we work to preserve endangered species, support scientific research and raise awareness among young and old about conservation issues.

PRESERVING ENDANGERED SPECIES

A fundamental mission of the park

The conservation of endangered species is one of the fundamental missions of modern zoological parks.

ZooParc de Trégemeur participates in the European Endangered Species Programmes, EEP, coordinated by EAZA. These programmes help preserve the genetic diversity of animal populations, ensure their sustainability and, where possible, prepare their return to the wild.

« Today, more than half of the species present at ZooParc are integrated into these European conservation programmes. »

Taking action in the field

The protection of biodiversity does not stop at the park’s gates. Through its commitment to the AFdPZ and several specialist associations, the ZooParc supports conservation efforts directly in the countries of origin of the species.

THESE PROJECTS NOTABLY AIM TO:

  • Protect natural habitats
  • Combat threats facing wildlife
  • Support scientific research
  • Assist local communities in preserving their environment

Through these actions, the ZooParc makes a concrete contribution to the preservation of endangered species in their natural habitat.

Raising awareness to better protect

Conservation also involves education and the sharing of knowledge.

Throughout the year, the ZooParc de Trégemeur carries out educational activities aimed at raising visitors’ awareness of biodiversity preservation. Meetings with the park’s teams, events, educational materials and exchanges with committed associations allow everyone to better understand the issues related to the protection of the living world.

« Because understanding nature better is already the first step towards protecting it. »

BREIZH ASIA

Running for biodiversity

Since 2018, ZooParc de Trégemeur has organised the Breizh Asia, a sporting and solidarity day entirely conceived and coordinated by the park’s teams.

400-500 PARTICIPANTS / YEAR
2018 FIRST EDITION
4 RACE FORMATS

This day raises funds for associations committed to the protection of endangered species while raising public awareness of biodiversity issues.

Family-friendly, convivial and committed, the Breizh Asia has become an unmissable event for all nature lovers.

OUR COMMITMENT TO THE RED PANDA

CPPR – Knowing and protecting the red panda

ZooParc de Trégemeur has for several years been supporting the work of CPPR, an association dedicated to the protection of the red panda and its natural habitat.

This collaboration is reflected in particular by:

  • The funding of the educational game “La course aux bambous”
  • Support for conservation missions in Nepal
  • Awareness-raising activities for young audiences

A twinning programme between French and Nepalese schools

In partnership with CPPR, ZooParc participated in the creation of an educational programme linking French and Nepalese schools around the protection of the red panda. Through this project, pupils discover the biodiversity of their respective countries, exchange drawings and messages, and become aware of the issues related to the preservation of endangered species.

« An initiative that demonstrates that conservation also comes through education and openness to the world. »

This space allows visitors to better understand the indispensable role of pollinators and the threats that currently weigh on their survival.

THE BLACK BEE

A species to protect

Since 2023, ZooParc de Trégemeur has been committed to the preservation of the black bee, Apis mellifera mellifera, a European subspecies particularly well adapted to our climate.

An essential pollinator, it plays a major role in maintaining ecosystems, biodiversity and many agricultural productions.

IN ORDER TO CONTRIBUTE TO ITS PRESERVATION, THE PARK TODAY HOSTS:

  • Around fifteen hives dedicated to its conservation
  • Two educational hives, visible to visitors through a glass panel

A COMMITTED SHOP

Conservation efforts are also supported through certain products available in the ZooParc shop. Several partner suppliers donate a portion of their sales to associations working to protect species and their natural habitats. Thus, every purchase also helps support concrete projects in favour of biodiversity.
