The ZooParc's Missions
Why do zoos play an essential role in biodiversity?
Faced with the destruction of natural habitats, climate change, pollution and the trafficking of wild species, many animal species are today threatened around the world.
Modern zoological parks have evolved profoundly. Far more than simple places of discovery, they are now committed players in species conservation, environmental education, scientific research and animal welfare.
At ZooParc de Trégomeur, these four missions guide each of our daily actions.

Preserving endangered species
Participating in conservation programmes to ensure the future of species and preserve their genetic diversity.
Raising awareness about biodiversity protection
Informing, sharing knowledge and awakening awareness to better understand living beings and inspire a desire to protect them.
Contributing to scientific research
Supporting the exchange of knowledge and collaborating with scientists to better understand species.
Ensuring animal welfare
Providing each animal with a living environment that is adapted, stimulating and respectful of its biological and behavioural needs.
More than 50%
of the park's species participate in a European conservation programme.
FRANCE & INTERNATIONAL
Conservation actions supported in France and internationally.
THOUSANDS OF VISITORS
Raised awareness each year about the protection of living beings.
Preserving endangered species
Species conservation is one of the fundamental missions of modern zoological parks.
Through European programmes coordinated by EAZA, zoos participate in the protection of species whose populations are sometimes severely threatened in their natural environment.
THESE PROGRAMMES NOTABLY ALLOW:
- Preserving the genetic diversity of animal populations
- Maintaining viable populations in the long term
- Supporting conservation projects carried out in the field
- Contributing, where possible, to the reintroduction of animals into their natural habitat
Raising awareness to better protect
We better protect what we know. Each year, ZooParc de Trégemeur welcomes thousands of visitors who come to discover the richness of Asian biodiversity. Throughout their visit, young and old alike learn to better understand the animals, their behaviours, their natural habitats and the threats they face.
THIS AWARENESS-RAISING TAKES PLACE NOTABLY THROUGH:
- Educational panels and thematic trails
- Activities and encounters with the park’s teams
- Mediation activities adapted to all audiences
Each animal thus becomes an ambassador for its species and its ecosystem. Because a better understanding of living beings is often the first step towards their protection.
Contributing to scientific research
The protection of species relies on solid scientific knowledge. Zoological parks collaborate with researchers, universities, veterinarians and specialised organisations in order to better understand the needs of animals.
THIS WORK FOCUSES NOTABLY ON:
- Animal behaviour
- Reproduction
- Genetics
- Nutrition
- Health and well-being of species
The knowledge gained helps improve conservation programs carried out in zoos, as well as in natural environments. The ZooParc de Trégomeur participates in this dynamic by supporting knowledge exchanges and collaborations developed within French and European zoological networks.
Placing animal welfare at the heart of our actions
Animal welfare is a daily priority. Each species housed at the ZooParc benefits from an environment designed to meet its biological, behavioral and physiological needs.
THE PARK’S TEAMS ENSURE IN PARTICULAR:
- Providing spaces suited to each species
- Ensuring regular veterinary monitoring
- Offering appropriate nutrition
- Implementing enrichments that encourage the expression of natural behaviors.
This constant attention helps guarantee the quality of life of the animals and constitutes an essential pillar of the conservation, education and research missions carried out by the park.
A VISIT WITH MEANING
Visiting ZooParc de Trégemeur is much more than a family outing. Your visit directly contributes to the funding of conservation programmes, educational projects, scientific research activities and initiatives in favour of animal welfare. By discovering the animals and the issues related to their preservation, everyone can become an actor in the protection of biodiversity.
Every visit is a contribution to the protection of living beings.
