Description
The demoiselle crane, also known as the Numidian demoiselle, is one of the smallest species of crane. Its rudimentary nest is usually built directly on the ground, often near a body of water. Migrating cranes adopt the V formation to save energy: the individual in the lead creates an air trail beneficial to the
followers, and leaves his place when its tired.
THREATS AND PRESERVATION
The demoiselle crane is not considered endangered. Nevertheless, the reduction and degradation of its habitat, and theuse of pesticides, are threats both to its natural environment and to the migration routes it uses.
